Belvedere

The Belvedere, once built as a magnificent summer palace for Prince Eugene of Savoy, now houses the collections of Austrian painting and sculpture from the Middle Ages to the 20th century in a context of European art.

One good reason to visit the gallery in the Upper Belvedere is Gustav Klimt, with his golden paintings “The Kiss” and “Judith”. Furthermore you will find impressive works by Schiele and Kokoschka, as well as major examples of French Impressionism. Vienna’s largest collection of paintings of the Biedermeier era  (Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Friedrich Amerling) is also displayed in this magnificent museum.
